Fred Wilson discusses the
Disqus/Seesmic alliance, soon after the Seesmic/Twhirl acquisition, and we are well aware of the Friendfeed addiction to the Twitter ars.....firehose. To be honest though, I cannot for the life of me see the value add of a multitude of subscale aggregation plays, all desperately trying to sequester their own band of faithful acolytes ( reminds me of Terry Pratchett's book
"Small Gods". )
In Discworld, there are many gods. Their power depends upon having believers; a god with no believers fades into a powerless, wandering spirit or dies.
Anyway, ever wanting to be helpful, we have produced an Aggregation Roadmap to help people decide where to place their Aggregated Attention:
This doesn't mean that this fate will be visited to all Aggregators, of course - just to the sector in aggregate
Unless they all integrate, Step 3 awaits. The cycle is proprietary, then bridging, then standard interfaces.
(Fred also is unsure of the utility of Video Conversation - I must say I agree, but I suspect its a service/technology that needs to find its role and voice still - I can't believe it won't have a use - but I don't think its in commenting)
Update - thinking about the cyclical nature of this I was prompted to write the
Chatterati's Lament over here....
