Disclaimer:
I am the CEO of Survey Analytics -- we are behind IdeaScale -- the service that was written by ReadWriteWeb. The core argument here is that crowdsourced suggestion box type portals allow for unsolicited feedback -- that is difficult to get. Yes, this model has it's own sets of pro's and cons (Crowd turning into a mob, vested interests pushing an agenda) -- but usually in many companies the same exists internally -- OK maybe not small companies, but mid-market to up-market. The most important point I would make is that this model is another channel for companies to get input. Today, 99.9% of the companies do surveys -- I know this cause I run QuestionPro -- the primary reason for our explosive growth is that everyone is running a survey (and we've made it ridiculously easy) to create and deploy a survey on the internet. The crowdsourced feedback model is basically an extension of the survey model -- except that surveys are uni-directional and closed. This is open. When you take a survey, no one else gets to "chime in" -- now you may argue that's a good thing. Personally, at QuestionPro -- we've built many features (for QuestionPro itself) simply by listening to our customers. I know this has worked for me (QuestionPro) -- so when we decided to build a crowdsourcing tool, all our customers said -- hey when you figure this out call us. We have the exact same problem. Finally, compared to surveys, this provides a constant stream of ideas and input. Surveys allow for "event" based input -- hence the difference between solicited and unsolicited feedback.
Hi Vivek - I have no doubt that you have a superb product - my beef was with RWW calling Crowdsourcing systems R&D, which in my view they are not.
Maybe I am oversensitive, but "Research & Development" - in my view - is a very maligned term these days.
You are right - Maybe R&D is an overstatment -- more like crowdsourced feedback would probably be more appropriate.
You can choose to R&D with the feedback, or shove it down the toilet |
