I love the way Arrington tries to twist it to blame "journalists" rather than "bloggers", who reported on how the interview sucked and attacked Lacey in their droves.
The interesting thing, as I've said elsewhere, is not how good or bad at interviewing Sarah is, or how dull Mark Z is, but how the partial attention/liveblogging/Twittering model of how to watch a keynote encourages instant reactions rather than considered opinions. This, in turn, amplifies the emotion of small numbers of people in the audience - sometimes into this kind of blogstorm.
Ian, thats what fascinated me too - that instant media vector towards mob rule. Especially after watching the video, when it was clear how small the lunatic fringe was
Clearly the low transcation costs of "flash mobbing" tech like twitter etc could be quite dangerous in spreading mob mentality, I think we may see far worse in future as its not just "white hat" guys like us who will have noticed this.
Ian has a point - I bet half the twitterers were'nt even paying attention to the stage - just twittering instant reactions and not listening. However, Lacy showed she is way too close and cosy with Zuckerberg - should have had Paxman!
Mike, more than twittering their reactions - I would argue they were following the lead of the A-Listers etc who were playing demagogue to the SXSW Roman Mob.
Agree re Lacy, now Paxo would be interesting |
