Online classified growth has been phenomenal, with everybody's aunt giving it a try.
There's been research that backed up gut instinct that Google's adwords don't convert as well as competitors (https://www.marketingsherpa.com/barrier.html?ident=30174) for example). Of course in large part that's because google's customers didn't do such a good job planning their campaigns - but than that's the behaviour that investors were backing. I don't know if it's that the newbies have stopped & looked at the return on their spend, and a few have stopped, or that sophisticated buyers are following a seasonal decline as you suggest. But either (or both) would take the momentum out of the bidding frenzy, just as fast as it started. Tulips!
@Will, I agree....most markets rise at a 2 steps forward, 1 step back rate - if Google grew at astounding % levels for X quarters, its bound to slip even if long term trends are steady.
All in all, too early to call dooom methinks! |
