Proof that Techmeme is not just about A-Lister regurgitation for Remora-list clamp-ons*...I'd have never found
this piece otherwise:
Last week we wrote that one of the problems with the Internet is that it gives any yahoo a forum to air his views about your business. But some enterprising organizations have found a potential solution: Sue Google.
In this case......
Kiryat Yam, a small city in Israel, filed a police complaint to try to force Google to remove a comment a poster made about the city using Google’s popular Earth-mapping software. The poster contends that the city was built on the ruins of an Arab town from which innocent civilians were evicted, Network World reports. The city, of course, disputes the claim. Google tells Network World that while it recognizes some people will be offended by user-generated content, the comment is consistent with the company’s fair-use policy.
As the article says, suing a search engine is like suing a magnifying glass company that allows you to see the crack in your windshield, but I think the idea has plenty of potential for the creative litigative legal reptile.
Why?
Because, as
someone once said a long time ago..."that's where the money is"
UPDATE - Sod that for a bunch of soldiers...go for the
Big Bad Retail Guy......
*Can you see the irony inherent in this recursive discussion
