Google just missed its numbers because it said it was failing to monetise social networks. Other people's social networks. thus the potential need for a stronger set of community properties of its own (orkut hasn't set the world alight except in a couple of geographies.).
delcarative living- i think the squidoo lens makes it pretty clear what i am getting at, and yes i do think gardening is a useful metaphor for trying to analyse the wood from the trees. All that said- M&A is often like bingo, isn't it. not fully rational, whatever the CEOs say.
Ah OK, see your thinking re GOOG - not sure it will help them, because fundamentally there is no compelling evidence yet that it is possible to monetise social networks.
