Interesting....Bebo is betting on both emerging de-facto Social App standars, Facebooks and Google's - from
TechCrunch
It’s important to keep in mind that Bebo is not ditching OpenSocial but rather opting to support two platforms side-by-side. Their wager seems to be that Facebook’s platform isn’t going anywhere despite Google’s initiative, and that it’s best to make friends with developers who have already put long hours into programming for Facebook. The possibility that Bebo can even pull this off suggests that on a certain level, OpenSocial is unnecessary. And were other social networks to adopt the same tactic, OpenSocial’s mission would become compromised by the ubiquity of Facebook’s own platform.
TechCrunch think its a Jam Today play as Google's OpenSocial is less developed.
For Bebo its going for birds in the hand, problem is its not their bird - there are continual rumours (in the strictly can't corroborate them sense) that Bebo is up for sale, so this may be part of that process, because its a risky long term strategy, especially given initiatives starting like
DiSo which - to me anyway - implies that the Open Community is now on the move.
Good news for Facebook developers anyway if its a simple port, keeps them occupied between now and stating to build for the Open Net.
Wonder if any of the other Socnets will bet on both horses?
