Wow - Has Techmeme pulled a Facebook story (or vice versa)?

Was checking out Techmeme after work, looked at 6:02 GMT (1.02 Techmeme Time) and there was the TechCrunch story about the Facebook November unique user rise maybe coming from Beacon, sitting nicely in the middle of the board:

Refreshed at 6:05 and it was gone - not even in the Earlier Items section, where older stories were still lingering

I've waited till now to blog this just in case it was a blip, but that story is still gone at 1.40 pm....

What gives? Nothing disappears off Techmeme in 3 minutes flat in my experience !

Maybe it was our hypothesis of what may be happening....surely not, its hardly difficult to work out ?

Update at 7.20 GMT - Gabe Rivera emailed me with this explanation:

The TC post was attached to a related All Facebook post. Both were old (the TC post had been there since yesterday) and fell below the threshold for posting at the same moment, so both vanished together. The reason they were in the "Top Items" section is because all pairs of 2 or more "related" posts appear there. The reason this kind of sudden dropoff is rare is that it requires two headlines to fall off simultaneously. Whew, kinda technical, sorry...

I preferred the conspiracy hypothesis

- but that's the sort of response from a CEO that is just Awesome !!!!

I took a look at what you described and I too was surprised at first -- it usually doesn't happen that way. (BTW, your first URL doesn't work...I think you meant h1300).

But I figured out what happened. The TC post was attached to a related All Facebook post. Both were old (the TC post had been there since yesterday) and fell below the threshold for posting at the same moment, so both vanished together. The reason they were in the "Top Items" section is because all pairs of 2 or more "related" posts appear there. @ Gabe....I far prefer conspiracy theories

I looked at 13:02, I see it defaults back to 13:00

Thanks for the update though. Interesting, will put it on the post.
