I was sorry not to be able to make the event, Alan. However, the RSA piqued me with their entrance charge, which they refused to waive, despite me (or rather NMK) having hosted the initial discussion (which cost our organisation about £100 in catering costs) for free. Anyway, enough. Breathe - blue in; red out.
They need a dedicated social network, IMHO, the sort of service provided by Kwiqq, that I blogged about today, but which is also available from a lot of other ROR shops. Creating the specification for that network will be the interesting next installment....
Ian, as you say the spec will be interesting. My thought on that is get something simple up early, and iterate. Otherwise getting a widely disparate group to spec something they are not particularly familiar with is a long and drawn out process.
