You think UK law enforcement needs to get more "with it" with new media and technology? That is a funny thing to say in regards to one of the most heavily surveilled cities on the planet.
Except that all that surveillance equipment couldn't help them keep up with, never mond predict it. Just reading Twitter would have worked better than whatever they did.
I'm trying to understand what dark side you mean...to me all social media does is reflect what people have done for ever. Talk. So whether face to face, by pamphlets, telephone or BBM, twitter and facebook. the channel is neutral. People are not unfortunately.
So I must have missed the talks where somebody said that social media will lead to a utopia of conversation where everything is 'good'.
Rachel, likewise I think SM is just a mirror of our societies - but I recall railing at books from Flashmob through Here Comes Everyone for their almost relentless optimism, and ditto have felt that a lot of the SM companies today have not put in protections for dark side elements.
