Alan - it is worth remembering that Google's domination of search ads comes from the fact is the the dominant search engine. If the search traffic goes elsewhere the revenues will follow. I may be over-simplifying but that seems pretty indisputable to me.
Doubleclick sells technology to other sites that get a lot of traffic, so IMHO adding together Google's search ads and the ads served via Doubleclick's technology to get the 80% figure is a bit misleading. I'd tend to agree re having to be "best of breed" search to keep the Ad benefits - which makes the New Search game so interesting because there is so much at stake.
