Have you been drinking with Sam?
It sounds like you are moving into the users get should paid for their attention camp. You probably know this better than I do, but I don't think there is any evidence that consumers care enough about the pennies to make it work. But a bit of cool extra content - at the margin that stuff retains customers.
Hi Nick
Not sure where I implied that in the above post, but my take on it is that this already happens with advertising, in that someone (brands) are motivated to subsidise the cost of the content you take in. If you think of advertising as a kind of micropayment, then to an extent you are being paid for your attention already There is to me a line between that concept and outright payment for attention though. Will it be crossed? We did some work several years back on "consumer NPV", and there are scenarios where a business may be tempted to distribute some of its rewards to its audience, but I haven't seen those conditions - yet. I have noticed with some interest a trend from the video sites to start rewarding us for contributions btw. |
