Where is OpenOffice lacking? In terms of features most people use, its mostly the third of your points, and that not usually a problem.
I have only got one MS Office doc that does not open in OpenOffice or Google Docs, that was, ironically, a download from Google Affiliate Network. I agree the web based stuff is lacking in features, but many people's usage is very limited as well, so it will work in some places. Personally, I like Gnumeric and Lyx, and I have done a substantial amount of real work in both and found them productive. Also, I do not think you can attribute any shortcomings in Open Source to people not wanting to do boring stuff. I thought most of the OpenOffice devs were Sun (and IBM?) employees who should be working on what they are told to. Incidentally, I have trouble with your captcha every time I make a comment here. |
