Ah yes. But I don't suppose the humble laptop will ever replace the childhood memories of my Raleigh Grifter.
Besides, one could argue that running into loonies in the street, meeting pretty young girls in the park and discovering the evils of cigarettes was to some extent character building! Laptops are great learning, gaming and social devices for young adults. However, like all good things over indulgence is a bad thing. Let's hope they also find it easy to "unplug" and discover the rich outdoor experiences on two wheels too.
As far as I can see teh park, fags etc still happens, its just that its pre-organised and post-discussed via the laptop.
And to be fair, there do seem to be far less salubrious people out there than when I was a kid, even in public parks.
That's a really interesting idea, Alan. We all begged for bikes for our birthdays, bacause of the freedom they briought us. Nowadays, is the laptop fulfilling that role?
I've written some more here: http://bikeclub.org.uk/2009/08/04/are-laptops-really-the-new-bikes/ |
