I don't get this whole Twitter vs RSS discussion, sorry. When I add a feed to my RSS reader I know that have a place to review EVERYTHING that the content provided has added since I last looked, be it one day or one week ago. How do you simulate that on Twitter? Set up individual Tweetdeck groups for everyone you want to follow? (and even then you have to hope that updates weren't lost). You could search for their Twitter handle but that is also labor intensive and inefficient.
I totally agree about the benefit of the Twitter conversation but, for me, comparing Twitter to RSS is like comparing a hammer to a screwdriver.
You are right, except..... it came as quite a surpise to me to realise I hadn't read my RSS reader for at least a year.
The reason is that by and large the Twitterstream points me to stuff to read, along with commentary, recommendation etc. Different thing, but replacing the same function.
Great The killer app in the future will be Context + Content + location
Hi Ismail - to me location counts as a type of Context, but point taken
Content + context is definitely on the money as far as I'm concerned.
Just on a side point, I think talking about what you're having for lunch has become a short hand for trivia. I don't think that's fair. I think food, and the way people eat, is genuinely fascinating. I don't think it's that people have stopped tweeting about what they have for lunch, but they've probably found the right followers. |
