I useed Pandora for the longest time. For me it was a million miles better than Last.fm. I could feed it my genres and it would dig out music I enjoyed listening to. Whats stunning is that despite the internet making geography meaningless we still have to suffer some stupid laws. Now the question remains. Why havent Pandora partnered up with another country that would welcome the investment in technology ?
As the US invokes these laws it creates more opportunities for other companies to look further afield. America is not the only producer of music after all !
That would be a real shame - Pandora offers something very very different to anything else out there at the moment, and I suspect (if it wasn't for the licensing fees) it has a very viable business model because of the added value their expertise brings. I suspect @Nicholas Butler has hit the nail on the head, time for them to look at basing the streaming business in somewhere looking forward, rather than fighting an unhill battle to retail the ability to sell by shouting at you.
Shame really - I don't think most (sensible) people mind paying for music, but a "per station" (and thus a "per customer" ) licensee is just old industry trying to squeeze the final gasps from a dying dinosaur. |
