Gartner has an interesting love-hate relationship with the iPhone as an Enterprise tool - initially panning it when it came out, then
reversing their position in March 2008. Now they have panned the 3G version - this from
El Reg, referring to an article in
ComputerWorld:
According to Ken Dulaney, author of the report, the lack of battery life on the 3G iPhone makes it impossible to maintain synchronisation with an Exchange server for a full day even if no calls are made. That's a serious issue, but the lack of security is the biggest impediment to enterprise adoption.
Re battery life, show me a smartphone that doesn't drain pretty fast. The security and cut 'n paste charges are more pertinent, but imho Gartner is missing the key point - this thing just does more that a user wants to do, and does it with a better UI.
I expect we will see a volte face by about November on past record, though to be fair I suspect it will be brought about by Apple fixing the security issues
(Disclaimer - I'm not an Apple Fanboi (don't use 'em), I think an Air is geek jewellery

, but I do think the iPhone has set a new standard in mobiles)
