Are mavens a complete waste of time? That's what I ask:
1) They rarely tell the mass market about what they are doing because they like to keep exclusivity. 2) They bugger off the moment something looks popular 3) They are inefficient at finding the next big mass-market thing 4) They rarely if ever pay for anything 5) They are the worst people in the world for clicking on ads etc. 6) Their networks (in real world terms) are small and cliquey. Bring me Joe Public; I'd rather be kissing his (paying) feet Mavens are terrible canaries. What they look for, usually, is ways to amplify their own voices and those of their friends. That, oddly enough, isn't what the rest of us look for.
